Club History & Evolution

Gay & Lesbian Alliance [GALA] - est. early 1980's
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Alliance [LGBTA] - est. early 1990's
PRIDE! online - est. 2002

GALA was originally founded in the early 1980's by a few Gay and Lesbian students of Brooklyn College that wanted an organization to help other students who were Lesbian & Gay. And then later on in the early 1990's it was decided that GALA would then be known as the LGBTA, as a step for widening inclusion of the community. This provided Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender students in Brooklyn College counseling and help for those who needed it. No one is ever excluded for becoming a member of LGBTA, ever. And now to hold this true today, a new & revised club focus, in response to our ever-changing need to understand, and accept the changing community of Brooklyn College.

The LGBTA was officiall restarted & revamped in the Spring semester of 2002, after the decision to update the original club focus & goals for inclusivness. The club has a goal in helping enriching student diversity through inclusive social-political events.

The LGBTA holds many events for recreational and informational services. An event that is held monthly is our PRIDE Movie Day! Along with other upcoming event ideas and plans for each semester. If you want more information on events we will be sponsering and/or co-sponsering please go to "Events". If you would like to know where the LGBTA is exactly located, go to the "Map".

Symbol for "Liberation"

"Lambda", the Greek letter "L", was chosen by the Gay Activist Alliance of New York in 1970.
This is represented as the international symbol for Gay & Lesbian rights and equality.
